Played in both parts of the Dune duology by Rebecca Ferguson, Lady Jessica, a Bene Gesserit acolyte, is more than just Paul Atreides' (Timothée Chalamet) mother. As the late Duke Leto Atreides' (Oscar Isaac) former concubine, she's also a crucial part of the sisterhood's breeding program — a long-term plan to bring forth a powerful messiah through selective reproduction.br br However, in Frank Herbert's Dune universe, Lady Jessica's lineage is also something of note. In order to capitalize on this, Villeneuve has confirmed Dune 2's major Lady Jessica story change. Notably, the book's version of the character undergoes a ritual to become a Reverend Mother, causing the child she's pregnant with to be born with an adult mind as well as the memories of past Bene Gesserit women.
