The Rampa Porca De Murça held on Sunday, 08 March 2020, was marred by a fatal accident that resulted in the deaths of two spectators. The event organised by CAMI Motorsport in Murça, district of Vila Real, northern Portugal, was the opening round of the 2020 Portuguese Hillclimb Championship.br br Shortly after 16h00 o'clock, the #151 BMW M3 driven by Luís Silva had just crossed the finish line at the end the 4.2-kilometer hillclimb. He had set the third time in the CPLM category. The car continued down the road at full speed until it crashed into a large group of spectators. It was reported the accident happened after the accelerator stuck and the car went out of control.br br As a result of the crash, at least ten spectators suffered injuries. A rescue helicopter was called to quickly evacuate the injured people to Centro Hospitalar de Trás-os-Montes e Alto Douro (CHTMAD) in Vila Real.br br Sadly two of the injured spectators lost their lives. The two victims, both 55 years old, were Maria Constância Ferreira de Andrade who lived in the village of Levandeira, close to the accident site, and José Avelino Cruz, an employee of the Municipality of Murça.br br Six others were listed in critical condition, including César Lourenço of Murça, 56-year-old firefighter on duty at the hillclimb. The driver Luís Silva was unhurt. A property developer of Vila Nova de Famalicão, Braga, Portugal, he was an experienced race car driver. In 2019 he was involved in another spectacular accident during the Rampa da Serra da Estrela.br br This was reported to be the first fatal accident in the almost thirty-year history of the hillclimb.br br R.I.
