He still managed to have four fights in that year. Minter won his first 11 bouts, but then suffered his first loss to Don McMillan due to severe cuts around the eyes. Minter then won his next two fights before facing Jan Magdziarz for the first time. He suffered another stoppage loss due to cuts. Six weeks later, Minter had a rematch with Magdziarz in what was his 12th bout of the year.br br Jan Magdziarz turned pro a few weeks before Minter. He won seven of his first eight bouts, with one draw, going into his first fight with Minter. He had four stoppages on his record, so his power was decent, without being overwhelming. His opponents had been a collection of journeymen with fairly modest records. Minter had been ahead in their first bouts before cuts put an end to their fight.
