Official description: A broom, one that is easy to see but not in the way. It’s on the wall, leaning against a column.br br A special broom – like those used by the street sweepers of Paris. Next to the broom hangs a smock perhaps, cleaning supplies as well.br br Every day around noon, someone comes, puts on the smock, takes the broom and sweeps.br br In the entryway, in front of the house. Sweeps for roughly 20-30 minutes.br br Talking out loud, a soliloquy, about the weather, about the going-ons in the city, in the house. Thoughts that pass through minds, that keep us thinking. Singing and humming. Ménage de la maison – house cleaning – in many respects.br br After tidying up, the broom, smock, and cleaning supplies are placed where they belong. Waiting to be used again the next day.br br This simple daily sweeping becomes a ritual. And maybe visitors will come again to see, to watch, to listen.br br Olaf Nicolai (born 1962 in HalleSaale, Germany) studied German literature and philology in Leipzig, Vienna, and Budapest.
