52-hertz whales are individual whales of an unknown species that call at a frequency of 52 Hz, different from the frequency of whale species in general. This pitch is a higher frequency than other whale species with similar migration patterns[1]—blue whales (10–39 Hz)[2] or fin whales (20 Hz).[1] This whale has been detected moving regularly in several locations since the late 1980s and appears to be the only individual whale to emit sounds at this frequency.
