Loading a Verbal Marker with Phoenix

Introducing Phoenix to a Marker word. br br Just as some background before anyone gets upset at how small he is, Phoenix was dropped off at a shelter at 4 weeks old and scheduled for euthanasia because he was too young for the shelter to care for. A trainer we knew rescued him from the shelter and we fostered him for a few weeks until he was old enough to be adopted out. br br Phoenix's age made a lot of things difficult, for example, his eyes, ears, and nose weren't fully functioning due to his young age, and so there was more patience necessary in regard to letting him actually realize food was in front of him, where the food was, and that it was actually food. br br However, watch his tail when I say “snack” - even though he is young and his eyes, ears, and nose aren’t working great yet, you can see after he finds the food and I say “snack” his little tail starts wagging excited because he knows another piece of food is coming. That’s a good sign that you’re on the right track to properly loading the marker and getting the emotional response.
