Iran's Navy Commander, Rear Admiral Shahram Irani, has stirred controversy with bold claims of ownership over Antarctica, raising concerns about the security of the South Pole continent. In a September broadcast on MEMRI TV, Admiral Irani declared, "We have plans to raise our flag there and carry out military and scientific work."
