JD Vance's political star has risen after helping deliver Ohio for Donald Trump in the 2022 midterms. Vance urged Trump to endorse Bernie Moreno in the competitive Ohio GOP Senate primary, which Moreno won handily. Vance campaigned heavily for Moreno, raising nearly $1 million and helping secure a last-minute Trump rally. Trump has been effusive in his praise of Vance and sees him as a contact in Ohio who understands the MAGA movement. At age 39, Vance could help energize younger conservatives as Trump's running mate.
