Incidents of workers being duped into coming to Malaysia for non-existent jobs will not affect the upcoming Trafficking in Persons (TIP) Report, said the Human Resources Minister.

Steven Sim addressed concerns about Malaysia potentially being downgraded to Tier 3 in the TIP Report at the joint meeting between the Human Resources Ministry and Home Ministry on Migrant Workers Management on Monday (May 20), and assured that his ministry is working diligently to prevent abuse of policies related to hiring migrant workers.

Sim also highlighted the case of migrant workers stranded and jobless in Pengerang, Johor, as a landmark decision affirming that workers are entitled to compensation regardless of whether they work or not.
