How to Flip the Grip in Pigeon Pose

Begin in Pigeon Pose:br br Start in Downward Facing Dog. Bring your right knee forward, placing it behind your right wrist with your shin angled across the mat. Extend your left leg straight back, keeping your hips square to the front of the mat.br Settle your hips down toward the floor, feeling a stretch in your right glute and hip.br Set Up for the Backbend:br br Place your fingertips on the floor beside your hips, pressing gently to lift your chest. Start to arch your back, lengthening through your spine.br Bend your left knee, bringing your left foot toward your head.br Reach Back and Flip the Grip:br br Reach your left arm back and catch the outside of your left foot. To flip the grip, rotate your elbow upward and inward so your palm faces the ceiling and your fingers point forward.br Engage your core and continue to lift your chest as you deepen the backbend. Your gaze can follow upward or slightly forward.br Hold and Breathe:br br As you flip the grip, keep your breath steady. Focus on lengthening your spine and opening your chest while maintaining the stretch in your hip and glute.br Hold the pose for a few deep breaths, feeling the stretch in your chest, shoulders, and quads.br Release Safely:br Gently release your grip on your foot and bring your hands back to the mat.
