Apple is launching new A18-series chips in both Pro and non-Pro iPhones, marking a shift from its previous strategy of reserving major silicon updates for the Pro models. The A18 chip will power the iPhone 16 and 16 Plus and features a 6-core CPU with faster performance, a 5-core GPU with faster graphics, and advanced AI capabilities via a 16-core neural engine. The A18 chip features a 16-core neural engine to boost AI and machine learning performance and higher memory bandwidth than the A16. It is built using a second-generation 3 nm manufacturing process, likely provided by Apple's longtime partner TSMC.
