Egg Prices Jump Over 30% As Bird Flu, Holiday Demand Strain Supply

Grade A egg prices have surged over 30 since November 2023, according to CPI data. Prices rose 8 last month alone, driven by a bird flu outbreak that has killed over 30 million commercial egg layers this year and strong holiday season demand. Bird flu began impacting U.S. flocks in late 2021 and continues to strain supply, with 15 million deaths reported since mid-October. Wholesale prices have risen 97 during that time, compounded by peak fourth quarter demand for baking around Thanksgiving and Christmas.
