Fahadh Faasil’s mind-bending Malayalam film Trance, centering on a phony preacher Joshua Carlton, takes you on a wild psychedelic trip, but it doesn’t give you that high and leaves you with an unsatisfying conclusion. Trance, which drips with stylized scenes, an intriguing premise and superlative collective acting, is that cinematic crash and burn which doesn’t realize its full creative potential.
