A medical student who lost limbs to meningitis has had a rare hand transplant to help her become a doctor. br br Becca Heritage had been enjoying her first weeks at University of Southampton when she became ill.br br Doctors later discovered she had meningitis in November 2018 - a diagnosis that would change her life forever.br br Her parents were told to expect the worst - but medical staff were able to save her life by amputating both legs and most of her fingers.br br She self-referred herself to undergo a hand transplant - and would go on to become the ninth person in the UK to have it done.
