Coastal communities from central Queensland to the New South Wales border are being urged to brace for strong winds and a powerful swell this weekend as severe tropical cyclone Alfred shifts closer to the coast. While the bureau of meteorology is confident the system will remain offshore for the next few days island campers are being urged to leave while it’s still safe to do so.
