Released teenage Palestinian prisoners tell of their ordeal in Israeli captivity

SUBSCRIBE TO US!br istreated in Israeli detention upon arriving home Thursday.br br According to Associated Press many appeared gaunt, but smiling, as they waved to relatives from the buses ferrying them from Israeli detention back to Gaza.br br One detainee, Mohammad Abu Sahloul said he was kept constantly bound in detention: “I swear I could not believe that they were removed from my hands. 24 hours. You sleep with your hands and feet tied,” he said.br br Sahloul was one of dozens of Palestinian teenagers aged 15-19 and women who were released back to Gaza Thursday. Their scheduled release last weekend was put on hold by Israel, throwing their relatives in Gaza into anguish as they awaited their loved ones. Israel said it held back the release to protest what it said were grotesque ceremonies put on by Hamas for hostage releases.br br Rights groups say that Israel has badly mistreated Palestinians in military detention after pulling them in during large-scale arrest raids in Gaza. They allege that detainees have been tortured, beaten frequently, deprived of adequate and food and water, and held blindfolded and handcuffed.br br "Bad things happened to me, not just me,” said Sahloul. “Every young man who was arrested, ask him about the situation, he will tell you. No one can describe what happened to him. I was in a nightmare, I was in hell, and finally I got out of the hell that I was in."br br Nidaa Sahloul, Sahloul’s mother, said she was crying “tears of joy,” upon seeing her son, even though he was unrecognizable.
