Just hours after former U.S. President Donald Trump imposed a 10 tariff on Canadian energy imports and 25 on all other goods, Ottawa responded with immediate 25 tariffs on C$30 billion worth of U.S. imports, including cosmetics, appliances, tires, fruit, and wine. Canada also warned it would target an additional C$125 billion in tariffs within 21 days if needed. Prime Minister Justin Trudeau dismissed Trump’s justification, particularly allegations of fentanyl trafficking, calling them “bogus” and “false.” He accused Trump of trying to trigger an economic collapse in Canada, claiming it would make it easier for the U.S. to annex the country.
