Canada Imposes Targeted Auto Tariffs on U.S., Files WTO Dispute Against Trump’s 'Unjustified' Tariffs

Canada’s 25 auto tariffs on U.S.-made vehicles and some parts took effect Wednesday, according to CNBC. Canadian officials excluded individual parts to avoid disrupting the North American auto supply chain and included a remission process to provide relief to companies. Prime Minister Mark Carney said the levies are “calibrated and targeted.” Canada also filed a WTO dispute over the legality of Trump’s tariffs, calling them “unjustified” and “misguided.” The U.S. and Canada have maintained a tariff-free automotive trade relationship since the 1965 Auto Pact agreement.
