The context of the surrounding verses, Ephesians 2, 11 to 13, implies the uniting of Gentiles with Jews, whom had historically been God's Temple heritage and the object of God's promises.br br Jews and Gentiles united under Yahweh's worship centred in the Temple. Before the coming of the Messiah the Gentiles were separated from the commonwealth of Israel (Ephesians 2, 12 ).
