Tabor Robak: Toys-to-Life, 2015. 6-channel video (color, no sound, 4K), networked media players, 3 LED displays, 3 transparent displays, 3 Min.br br As part of the exhibition Accumulation - On Collecting, Growth and Excess, (08.02.-25.05.2025) the Migros Museum für Gegenwartskunst in Zurich, Switzerland presents Tabor Robak's 6-channel video Toys-to-Life. The artwork is part of the museum's collection.br br 'By incorporating these children's toys, which are mass-produced and marketed to parents and children, the work Toys-to-Life subtly comments on consumerism inherent in education and early childhood. Through the juxtaposition of familiar playthings like balloons, blocks, and puzzles with advanced display technology, the piece raises questions about whether our desire for material goods is linked to cognitive development.' - Tabor Robakbr br Tabor Robak (*1986 US; lives in Paris) works in new media. In his practice as an artist, he uses electronic devices that enable access to the internet and allow interactivity. In this way, video installations are created, as well as so-called generative works, which are developed by means of artificial intelligence.br br Toys-to-Life (2015) consists of three LED displays, on top of which a second transparent screen lies. Animations with toys for small children are shown superimposed on both screen types: memory cards, plastic dinosaurs and ABC building blocks flicker brightly across the screens.br br The work refers to learning elements such as simple subjects or colour stimuli which are designed to promote the visual skills of young children. At the same time, Robak reveals how the attraction of consumer behaviour can already be felt in the nursery: here begins the influence of marketing strategies on people's visual perception in their daily use of digital devices.
