“Anna Christie” is a 1923 American silent drama film directed by John Griffith Wray, based on Eugene O’Neill’s Pulitzer Prize-winning 1921 play. The story follows Anna Christie, a young woman who reunites with her estranged father, Chris Christopherson, a rugged coal barge captain. Having endured hardships in her past, Anna seeks a fresh start, but her father is determined to shield her from the rough world of sailors. When she falls in love with Matt Burke, a strong-willed sailor, she must confront her past and fight for acceptance.
