U.S. Posts $27B June Surplus as Tariff Revenues Soar 301%

The U.S. government reported a $27 billion surplus in June, boosted by a 13 rise in receipts and a surge in tariff collections, according to CNBC. Customs duties jumped 301 year-over-year to $27 billion for the month and have totaled $113 billion so far this fiscal year, up 86 from 2024. The June surplus followed a $316 billion deficit in May, bringing the fiscal year-to-date deficit to $1.34 trillion. Net interest on the national debt hit $84 billion in June and is projected to reach $1.2 trillion for the year. Trump’s recent spending bill is projected to add about $3.4 trillion to the national debt over the next decade, according to the Congressional Budget Office.
