Odisha chief minister Mohan Charan Majhi on July 15, 2025, announced the death of the 20-year-old girl student from FM Autonomous College, Balasore, who had attempted self-immolation earlier this month after alleging sexual harassment by a faculty member. BJD leader Sulata Deo said, "A BJD delegation met with President Droupadi Murmu. It is shameful that atrocities are being done against women and tribals in Odisha...If such a thing is happening in the temples of education, then where should a woman go...When the President got to know about this incident, she showed concern...
