In this troubleshooting tutorial video, I'll show how to fix the "external component has thrown exception" problem in Batman: Arkham Asylum. This is a problem related to the lack of an older version of DirectX driver. This problem generally occurrs during startup of Batman: Arkham Asylum, this is why sometimes this is referred to as "External component" startup error of Batman: Arkham Asylum. br br 00:00 Finding the DirectX Installer br 00:34 If Your Game Doesn't Have "redist" Folder br 00:50 If the Website Is No Longer Available br br To fix this, br br 1. Open the game folder br Default location for Steam users is: br C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Batman Arkham Asylum GOTY br 2. Open the "redist" folder br In the video, I show to find this folder. br 3. Open the "DirectX" folder br 4. Run "DXSETUP" br If your game doesn't have this folder, follow the next instructions. br br 1. Go to the Internet br 2. Search for "DirectX 8" br 3. Open the Microsoft page for Microsoft DirectX 8 Runtime br 4. Download it br If the page is no longer available, follow the instructions in the video to use Internet Archive's Wayback Machine to access a recorder version of the page. br 5. Create a folder br 6. Extract the downloaded file contents into the folder br 7. Open the folder br 8.
