Trump Receives Lavish Gifts From Business Leaders, Foreign Figures, Raising Ethical Concerns

Trump received a glass disc with a 24-karat gold base from Apple CEO Tim Cook on Wednesday, as Apple announced a $100 billion investment in U.S. manufacturing, Axios reported. White House spokesman Davis Ingle said business leaders are making “historic investments” because of Trump’s “bold vision” and often share gifts showcasing their work. The bauble is the latest high-value gift to Trump this year, raising ethical and legal concerns. Earlier in this year, Trump accepted a $400 million jet from the Qatari royal family, a set of 1984 Olympic medals, and other gold-themed items for the Oval Office. A 2023 House Oversight report found the Trump family failed to report at least 117 foreign gifts worth $291,000 during his first term. U.S. law bars officials from keeping gifts above $480 without purchasing them on behalf of the nation.
