Ecclesiastes 1:2; 2:21–23 names the ache we feel under the sun. Vanity of vanities exposes labor without lasting rest.br br Qoheleth looks at toil, wisdom, and success. Another receives the fruit. Hearts grow weary by day and restless by night. Without God, gain slips through the fingers. The Word invites holy soberness. Work is good, yet it does not save. Wisdom is precious, yet it cannot hold eternity. The Lord alone gives meaning to the gifts of time. Let this reading purify motives and quiet pride. Offer your work to God each morning. Practice gratitude at evening. Ask for a heart that enjoys gifts as gifts and not as gods. Remember the poor and the tired. Encourage a friend who is burdened. Choose rest on the Lord’s Day. Seek wisdom that begins in the fear of the Lord. Pray for contentment, justice, and mercy. May Christ teach us to labor with hope and to receive each day as grace.
