Dehradun: A folk play has unexpectedly entered the political spotlight after a Ramlila video clip went viral on social media. In the performance, an actor casually mentions the name “Hakam Singh,” which netizens quickly linked to the ongoing Patwari exam paper leak scandal in Uttarakhand. The reference, though coincidental, has fuelled online discussions, blending satire, folklore, and current affairs.br br Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami reacted strongly, accusing the “cheating mafia” of tarnishing the state’s image. Speaking at a BJP workshop in Dehradun, Dhami said the government had enacted India’s strictest anti-cheating law in 2022, preventing over 25,000 candidates from grabbing jobs through unfair means. He asserted, “We have acted against more than 100 cheating mafias and will not stop until all are punished.”br br Meanwhile, police confirmed the arrest of the alleged mastermind, Hakam Singh, under the state’s anti-cheating law. Singh and his team reportedly duped aspirants by promising government jobs in exchange for ₹12–15 lakh each. Investigators clarified that no exam process was directly tampered with, but the gang ran a fake scheme to extort repeated payments from candidates.br br The viral Ramlila clip, now loaded with irony, has only intensified public scrutiny of the scandal.
