Congress Slams Modi Govt Over ‘No Women Journalist’ at Muttaqi’s Presser; MEA Reacts

pAfghanistan’s FM Amir Khan Muttaqi’s Press briefing sparked controversy after reports emerged that women journalists were allegedly barred from attending the PC. The press conference, organised at the Afghanistan Embassy in New Delhi drew widespread criticism after women journalists claimed they were denied entry. According to reports, only selected male journalists and officials of Afghan embassy attended the presser. Later, on Saturday, the Indian Ministry of External Affairs on Saturday clarified that it had no involvement in the press interaction of Afghan FM Muttaqi. However, the exclusion of women journalists sparked political outrage nationwide, as Congress called it “an insult to India’s women journalists”. In a post on ‘X’, Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi Vadra demanded that Prime Minister Narendra Modi clarify his position on the incident. Expressing shock and disappointment, P Chidambaram said that the male journalists should have walked out in solidarity with their female colleagues. Congress MP Karti P Chidambaram also criticised the government, calling the exclusion 'outright ridiculous.' Meanwhile, in his Press interaction, FM Muttaqi talked on women’s rights in Afghanistan, stating that the rights of all women are secured in Afghanistan.
