The J. Geils Band — The J. Geils Band 1970 (USA, Blues Rock)br br The debut album by the Massachusetts band. In the mid-1960s, the acoustic trio "J. Geils Blues Band" formed in Boston, performing Chicago blues standards as well as works by Steve Cropper, Jimi Hendrix, and James Brown. The band included guitarist John Geils, who leaned toward Southern slide guitar, bassist Danny Klein (Dr. Funk), a big fan of soul music, and harmonica specialist Richard Salwitz (stage name Magic Dick), whose interests ranged from jazz to blues. The group's name soon changed to The J. Geils Band, and in 1967 vocalist Peter Wolf (born Peter Blankenfeld) and drummer Stephen Jo Bladd (both ex-Hallucinations) joined the lineup. By this time, the band had switched to electric guitars, and in 1969, keyboardist Seth Justman joined the lineup. For several years, The J. Geils Band earned a live following, performing with blues titans such as Maddy Waters, Howlin' Wolf, and John Lee Hooker. At first, the musicians performed only other people's material, but in the late 1960s, Wolf and Justman began writing their own songs. In 1970, representatives from Atlantic Records saw one of the band's concerts and offered the band a contract. Despite the fact that J. Geils' live performances were not very successful, Geils Band enjoyed great success, with their debut album only briefly entering the charts, and only at the very bottom (#195 US Billboard 200).br br Tracks:br br 01.
