The Great Animal Migration Spectacle Across Water and Land

THE GREAT ANIMAL MIGRATION SPECTACLE ACROSS WATER AND LAND br WITH PIX AND VID br By Shuk Yee Tsang br Thousands of wildebeest, Zebras, elephants and other animals thundered across the plains and rivers in one of nature’s most breathtaking migrations.br The incredible scenes were captured by wildlife photographer Roger de la Harpe while with his wife Pat from Western Cape, South Africa. During their travels through Serengeti National Park, Tanzania.br The pair documented the herds’ dramatic river crossings, the heart of their 3,000km annual journey that follows the seasonal rains in a continuous loop across East Africa.br The couple made two trips to capture the migration, one to witness the chaotic Grumeti and Mara River crossings in the north.br Their images reveal both the beauty and brutality of this natural wonder, as thousands of wildebeest push forward through crocodile-infested waters and swirling dust clouds.br The de la Harpes were working on a book about Africa’s most iconic wildlife moments when they filmed the scenes, describing the experience as “awe-inspiring” and filled with “so much drama.”br They say photographing such wildlife spectacles requires constant awareness and respect for the dangers involved.br Roger said: “The wildebeest of the Serengeti migrate throughout the year, following the rains in a perpetual clockwise loop, covering some 3,000km annually.br “Between December and March they can be found in the south, where they give birth, and between July and October, they cross the rivers in the North; it’s these crossings that are so dramatic.br “We were working on a book about the iconic things of Africa, the river crossing spectacle was one of them.br “People are amazed by the event, so many animals, so much drama.br “When working with wild animals, you always have to be aware of the dangers and try to mitigate them.
