Traffic officers recorded two serious cases of speeding on Latvian roads, both occurring on the same day and resulting in heavy fines and driving license suspensions. br br In the late afternoon of October 4, shortly before six in the evening, state police officers in the Ķekava region caught a motorcyclist riding a Ducati on the A7 motorway, coming from the A5 highway toward Riga, at a speed of 197 kmh — well above the permitted limit of 120 kmh. br br The motorcyclist was immediately suspended, fined €1,400, and had his driving license revoked for 12 months. br br Hours later, on the same evening, officers recorded another extreme case: a Porsche driver was caught on Kārlis Ulmanis Avenue, traveling from Lielirbe toward Priedaines Street, driving at over 160 kmh in an area where the limit was only 70 kmh — exceeding the speed limit by more than 80 kmh. br br When stopping the driver, police discovered that he had never obtained a driving license, which further worsened the violation. The driver was fined €400 for driving without a license, another €1,800 for speeding, and received a 24-month driving ban. br br According to a statement from the Valsts Policija (State Police of Latvia), both cases highlight the importance of respecting speed limits and traffic laws to prevent tragedies on the country’s roads.
