Part 4 of 5 of the true life period drama. Victor dies of his head injuries and with Geoffrey dead only Edward her brother remains for Vera as the war enters into 1917. She gets her overseas posting so she can be near Edward, but is shocked at the state of the hospital and to find she is in charge of treating German patients. She does find a couple of allies in Ward Sister Hope Milroy and wet behind the ears young nurse Sally, but the war comes closer to her than expected when the German army advances towards their base.
