India has commissioned a new high-altitude military airbase in Ladakh, just 14 miles from the Line of Actual Control (LAC) with China, marking a major expansion of New Delhi’s border infrastructure. Built at an elevation of 13,700 feet, the Mudh-Nyoma Air Force Station features a 1.7-mile runway, new hangars, an ATC tower, crash bay, and upgraded accommodation for personnel. br br Constructed by India’s BRO at a cost of $25 million, the facility can host large military transport aircraft and advanced fighters, giving India a significant strategic boost in the region. br br The development comes even as India-China relations show signs of gradual improvement following years of heightened tensions. Both sides signed a patrol agreement in late 2024, resumed tourist visas, reopened direct flights, and held multiple high-level diplomatic engagements. br br Despite the thaw, New Delhi’s latest airbase signals that India remains firmly focused on strengthening its security posture along the contested Himalayan frontier.
