Stallion — The Hard Life 1974-1979 (UK, Heavy Progressive Rock)br br In 1972, in the town of Hastings, located forty miles from the famous city of Canterbury, which gave its name to the progressive rock movement, young musicians, tired of playing only folk music and pop covers, formed the band Stallion. The lineup included Steve Demetri, Tich Turner, Tony Bridger, and Steve Kinch. Demetri was influenced by Genesis, King Crimson, Billy Cobham, and Frank Zappa; Bridger refined his guitar style by emulating Rory Gallagher and Jimi Hendrix; Turner was a fan of American rhythm and blues and listened to everything from Marvin Gaye to Little Feat. In 1974, Kinch left to join Hazel O'Connor's backing band (and in 1986, he resurfaced with Manfred Mann's Earth Band), and Roger Carey was hired to replace him in Stallion. Around this time, the guys conceived the idea of adding a keyboard player to the band. During their performance at a Melody Maker rock band competition, Phil Thornton was in the audience. After their set, he burst into the dressing room and declared that he had a ton of new ideas and that Stallion needed him. Soon, the quintet entered a recording studio for the first time, and in early 1975, their single "Skinny KidIn The Wake Of The Cobra" was released on the Flyright label. After the single's release, Carey left the band, later becoming a successful session musician specializing in jazz. Tracks:br br 01. If Life Were Death - 0:00br br 02.
