UNICEF calls for action amid highest level of child displacement in the world

The United Nations Children’s Fund Executive Director Catherine Russell called for urgent action to safeguard children in Sudan during her visit to Kassala in the eastern region of the country. According to UNICEF, Sudan is facing one of the world’s most severe humanitarian crises, with escalating conflict, rising hunger, and the highest level of child displacement globally—an estimated 10 million people displaced, half of them children. More than 30 million people require humanitarian assistance, while women and girls are experiencing horrific levels of sexual violence. UNICEF urged an immediate end to the violence and called on all parties to uphold international humanitarian law to ensure the safety and dignity of every child and civilian.
