Ukraine’s U.N. Ambassador Andriy Melnyk accused several countries of indirectly funding Russia’s war by increasing imports of Russian energy and called for massive secondary sanctions. Russia’s U.N. Ambassador Vassily Nebenzia countered by claiming Ukrainians were being “forced to fight” as he questioned Kyiv’s motives and its Western support. UN officials reported that 2025 has been one of the deadliest years of the war, with civilian casualties up 24 compared to 2024. The meeting was requested by Slovenia, Denmark, France, Greece, South Korea, and the United Kingdom.
