Chile: Police repress protest against president elect José Antonio Kast in Plaza Baquedano

In Santiago de Chile, protesters rejected the election of José Antonio Kast and were repressed by police, marking the first direct confrontation against the newly elected president. Demonstrators gathered at the emblematic Plaza Baquedano, where Chilean National Police deployed water cannon vehicles to disperse the crowd. Dozens of detractors of the far-right candidate expressed their rejection of the results announced by the Electoral Service, which declared Kast victorious with 58.18 percent of the vote against progressive candidate Jeannette Jara, who obtained 41.82 percent. The protests unfolded amid growing political tension in the country.
