Honduras: National Electoral Council begins special counting of voting records with inconsistencies

More than three weeks after the general elections, Honduras’ National Electoral Council (CNE) began on Thursday a special recount of thousands of voting records flagged with irregularities. CNE president Ana Hall, representative of the Liberal Party, confirmed the process will take place under the supervision of national and international observers. A total of 2,792 ballots from the November 30 elections, marked by allegations of fraud, will be reviewed. Analysts warn that this correction could alter the preliminary results, which currently show presidential candidates Nasry Asfura of the National Party and Salvador Nasralla of the Liberal Party in a close race.
