The Carolyn Hester Coalition – Magazine 1970 (USA, Psychedelic, Folk Rock)br br br The second and final Carolyn Hester Coalition album was similar enough to the first that it sounded as if it could have been recorded at the same session. There was that same odd blend of folkiness and trendy Californian pop-psychedelic production; however, the mood was more subdued and the material blander this time around. The strange cover of "(Sittin' On) the Dock of the Bay" is a low point, but "Just Follow Me" is in line with the best moments of the first CHC LP in its attractive combination of a folky, haunting melody and Hester's girlish, high-pitched vocals.Magazine Review by Richie Unterbergerbr br br br In 1969, Carolyn Hester married Coalition member David Blume, a jazz pianist, producer, and composer who, in 1966, had recorded the US Top 40 hit "Turn Down Day" with his group, The Cyrkle. Together, they founded the Outpost record label, an ethnic dance club in Los Angeles, and recorded a limited number of songs for Decca, RCA, and Capitol Records. Since 1972, Carolyn has toured occasionally and performed at almost every folk festival in Kerrville, Texas, where she is a board member. In the 1980s, Carolyn returned to the stage. In 1992, Hester was invited to perform at the "Boots of Spanish Leather" concert at Madison Square Garden, celebrating Bob Dylan's 30th anniversary with Columbia Records... Carolyn Hester can also be found as a guest vocalist on numerous albums, including Nancy Griffith's Grammy-winning "Other Voices, Other Rooms," recorded in 1993.
