Hollywood Sign Protests Land For Sale

The Trust for Public Land (TPL) are wrapping the famed iconic Hollywood sign with "Save the Peak" as a protest against the sale of the real estate in which it is perched on high above the city. TPL has raised 7 million of the 12.5 million needed to purchase the land from Chicago area-based Fox River Financial Resources and prevent four "McMansions" from being built "above and to left" said National Media Director Tim Ahern in an interview with the Examiner.com. (see video)br The sign which originally read HOLLYWOODLAND, was erected to promote a new development in 1923, but now ironically, it stands in protest against any further land development on the Cahuenga Peak.br ''The city of Los Angeles wants to acquire this land, not only to maintain the view of the Hollywood sign, but also to preserve open space, hiking trails and wildlife corridors for the future health of our great city,'' Councilman Tom LaBonge, whose district includes Cahuenga Peak, said in a statement.br Many actors and actresses are climbing on board in defense of the peak including Julia Louis-Dreyfus, Academy Award Nominated Actress Virginia Madsen, Tippi Hedren, John Slattery, Aisha Tyler, Julian McMahon, James Kyson Lee, Beau Garrett and Katherine Morris according to www.savethepeak.org.
