Australian Foreign Minister Stephen Smith is on a three day visit to India. On Wednesday, he expressed satisfaction with the security measures taken by Indian authorities for the upcoming 2010 Commonwealth Games.

[Stephen Smith, Australian Foreign Minister]:
"I am very pleased with the co-ordination and co-operation that Australia and other commonwealth countries are receiving from India over this (security) matter. But, we need to be absolutely vigilant until the completion and conclusion of the games. I am also satisfied that the Indian authorities are doing everything they can to ensure that is the case.”

Smith watched a Hockey World Cup league match between Australia and India on Tuesday. He praised the host for providing good security coverage during the match.

[Stephen Smith, Australian Foreign Minister]:
“In many respects the Hockey World Cup, which I attended last night, is being regarded as the sense of dry run for the Commonwealth arrangements. I know with my conversation with the players and the officials that people are happy with the security arrangements that have been made so far as the Hockey World Cup is concerned."

Security has become a major cause of concern for athletes of the visiting countries.

Recently, an email was sent by a member of a Pakistan-based extremist group to a Hong Kong-based online news portal which warned the international community not to send their teams and fans to the 2010 Hockey World Cup and Commonwealth Games in India.
