Sheikh welcomes Queen in Abu Dhabi

pbr The Queen has been officially welcomed to Abu Dhabi as she continues her state visit to the Gulf.br ppbr The monarch has arrived in the capital of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and paid her respects at the tomb of the founder father of the state, Sheikh Zayed, in the city's Grand Mosque wearing a spectacular gold brocade coat.br ppbr At the Al Mushrif palace, UAE's president Sheikh Khalifa then greeted the Queen and Duke of Edinburgh in a formal welcome.br ppbr Foreign Secretary William Hague has joined the royal party as has the Duke of York in his role as the UK's Special Representative for International Trade and Investment.br ppbr During the day, the monarch will have a private meeting with Sheikha Fatima, the wife of the late ruler Sheikh Zayed, while Prince Philip and Prince Andrew attend a military reception with a fly-past.br ppbr The Queen will also unveil the design of the new Sheikh Zayed Museum which will be built on Saadiyat Island, off the Abu Dhabi coast - a project designed by British architects Foster and Partners.br ppbr The centrepiece of the trip will be the Queen taking her place as guest of honour at a spectacular display of horsemanship and horses on Saturday to mark Sultan Qaboos' 40th year as ruler.
