Louis Jordan was a jump jazz musician and Godfather of rhythm & blues. This singersax man was hugely popular during the 1940's and an inspiration to a number of the legends of 1950's r&b. James Brown has cited watching “soundies”, early music videos that played between films in theaters, as an early influence.
