Dressed in their best and clutching Bibles, thousands of Haitians gathered near a ruined cathedral Wednesday to mark the moment a year ago when the earth convulsed and savaged their nation. President Rene Preval laid the first stone in a memorial park that will be placed across from the presidential palace. Former US president Bill Clinton, one of the main figures coordinating a massive international aid effort, also attended.
