How Rosetta Stone Successfully Leverages Facebook

PubCon video content producer Vanessa Zamora sat down with Blitzlocal chief executive officer Dennis Yu and Rosetta Stone senior director of online marketing Eric Ludwig at PubCon Las Vegas 2010 for an interview. Yu and Ludwig shared their insight into how and why language instruction website Rosetta Stone has seen success with its marketing efforts on Facebook. Yu highlighted some important changes made by Facebook, including shifting to a cost per click model and running Facebook inline "likes". Ludwig emphasized the importance of the growing medium that is Facebook, and in doing so pointed out an interesting graph published by Silicon Alley Insider that shows Facebook dominating the display ad market over other Web giants including Google, Yahoo and Bing. Yu offered advice for companies looking to set up a Facebook page, advising companies to encourage engagement beyond just a sale or a coupon by offering more compelling content such as video or something humorous. Yu also suggested looking at Appbistro.com, a website with application offerings. What really makes a new Facebook page tip is when you integrate what Yu calls apps, ads, and analytics with a focus on driving great content, traffic, and integrating all of it with other channels, he added. Lastly Yu shared the top five Facebook applications he thinks companies should implement, which include the reveal tab, a reviews tab, especially for local brands, a video tab, product special tab or coupons tab, and for lead generation a voting or quizzing tab.
