Obama shoos away reporters

March 7 2011 President Obama gave a statement to the press pool on Monday after talking with Australia’s prime minister, Julia Gillard. He spoke briefly about Libya, condemning the violence there again, and made no news. Afterward, a handful of the journalists invited into the room shouted questions at Obama, as is customary in such situations. But Obama wouldn’t bite. “Thank you very much, everybody,” Obama said as the reporters clamored for an answer. “Thank you guys.” They kept shouting. “Thank you very much. Thank you very much, everybody,” he repeated. “Thank you very much, everybody,” he said again, flashing a toothy grin. Then a reporter asked a question Obama didn’t mind answering – what his thoughts are on visiting Australia. “I’m looking forward to a return visit to Australia,” he said, smiling. When he was in Sydney when he was 8, he said, “everybody treated me wonderfully.” Then it was back to “all right, thank you everybody.
