Sirte, on the Libyan coast between Tripoli and Benghazi and the main town still in loyalist hands, is besieged by rebel forces from east and west. But rebels are still awaiting the result of negotiations, designed to bring about a peaceful surrender of Kadhafi loyalists, before making their move.
