The Macchi C.205 "Veltro was the natural evolution of the excellent C.202 "Folgore ". Fast and well armed, it was probably one of the best fighters produced during the conflict. Exceptionally manoeuvrable, great climber, easy to fly and sturdy, when the "205" entered in production it was the best fighter of the Axis. Significantly better than the Hawker Hurricane and the P-40, it was more maneuverable and had a better climbinr rate up to 6000 meters than Thunderbolts, Lightnings and Spitfire VCs too. In combat demonstrated to be extremely effective. Flying for the A.N.R. (The National Republican Air Force) the "Veltro" shot down a great number of Allied bombers, facing successfully the formidable P-51 Mustang.
