Once a nationalist hero, Yemen's president Ali Abdullah Saleh is now recovering from an attempt on his life.br State TV says he's back from a three month stint in Saudi Arabia.br The announcement was greeted by gunfire on the streets of the capital Sanaa.br Yemenis have been calling for Saleh to step down since January.br So far some 450 have died in the uprising.br Protesters, inspired by the revolution in Egypt, hope Saleh will face trial.br (SOUNDBITE) (Arabic) PROTESTER MOHAMMMED ALI, SAYING:br "The revolutionaries are happy with his return and God willing it will mean he will be tried in the cage along with his two sons, just like Hosni Mubarak and his two sons."br Violence in the capital escalated this week with some observers fearing all-out civil war.br Saleh's return will do little to calm the situation.
