The changes in European demographics

Watch the full 25-minute video at . Prof. Dr. Rainer Münz, Head of Research at Erste Bank, and James Turk, Director of the GoldMoney Foundation, talk about the characteristics of global and European demographics. There are about 500 million people living in the European Union. Along with the rest of the developed world it has the highest life expectancy as well as a low birth rate (approximately 1.5 children per family). In some regions this already leads to a shrinkage in population. This gap is filled by immigration into the EU, leading to a higher ethnic, religious and cultural diversity in the metropolitan areas. The rapid aging of the population will make the quadrupling of the world population in the 20th century a unique event in history, because in the future aging will also take effect in populations, which are still very young on average, such as China, Brazil, India and Indonesia.br br This video was recorded on September 30 at the GO AHEAD! Business Summit ’11 in Vienna.
